“When I was a child, we went to church sporadically. We were definitely “Chreasters!” My grandparents always invited and took us to church. We even sang hymns and they sent me to VBS a few times, but I never had a relationship with Jesus.

Around 25 years later, my niece started attending Rise Church and made the decision to invite Jesus into her heart. I could see the immediate change in her. She was planning on being baptized in December 2016, and we were invited to attend. Growing up, I always believed that you came to church if you were “perfect,” and if you weren’t, then you needed to become perfect before walking through the doors. I knew I was jacked up and definitely couldn’t walk into a church and expect them to accept me, but my husband and I attended that first Sunday for my niece.

We immediately felt welcome! There was no feeling of judgement and we noticed that right away. The baptism ceremony was so emotional and it really touched my heart. I remember thinking, “I can’t wait until I am at a place in my life to be baptized,” but I realize now that regardless of how jacked up we are, Jesus will always leave the 99 who are already following him to find the one who isn’t. I was THAT ONE, and on a Sunday morning, I felt the pull of the Holy Spirit, and I decided to ask Jesus into my heart and forgive my sins, and I’ve never looked back!

Jesus has changed everything in my life! When I go through struggles, I used to get angry, throw blame around, and ask God “Why would you do this to me?” Now, when the struggles hit, I just worship Him more and dig deeper into the scriptures and my devotions! I am in love with Jesus, and I’m so thankful God used Rise Church to bring me back to the 99!”
